Customer Service Manager

Lucigen seeks a collaborative and experienced customer service manager to direct and oversee the company's customer service team and foster a strong customer-focused culture. Additional responsibilities for the position include:

  • Manage Customer Service team, and other staff members as assigned
  • Supervise, evaluate, and review employee performance, ensuring that there is a high quality and well trained staff to meet current and future business requirements
  • Manage reports' schedules to ensure appropriate coverage based on workload and critical/time-sensitive projects and make staffing recommendations
  • Acting a customers' primary escalation point, provide back-up to staff members as needed to ensure that orders are processed and customer inquiries are handled promptly
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations and customer service interactions; build team identity with positive leadership and coaching of staff members to achieve company goals
  • Coordinate customer communications (price changes, discontinuations, backorders, etc.), working in close coordination with Manager to ensure appropriate and timely notification to customers & distributors worldwide
  • Work in close partnership with internal departments (e.g. manufacturing, shipping, sales) in order to render excellent support to all customers regarding their orders with Lucigen (promptly processes orders and credit card payments, provides order status, changes, etc.)
  • Manage and issue product quotes/discounts (i.e. New Lab), bid responses & other orders for all customer inquiries received (domestic/international, direct, or through distribution partners), applying good judgment, using pricing guidelines provided and seeking approval/feedback from various departments and Global Sales Director, as may be required
  • Contribute actively to commercial & marketing initiatives/opportunities, especially those initiatives focused on driving incremental business growth through the Sales team
  • Analyze and report key business metrics to Manager via weekly sales update report or other reporting that may be requested; develop and maintain appropriate metrics to meet strategic business objectives and/or departmental objectives
  • Handle customer complaints by ensuring a prompt investigation and conclusion following Lucigen's quality standard; document customer complaints in quality system and represent the Sales team in weekly record review meetings
  • Provide assistance to new customers with account setup as needed
  • Work with Manager on customer service initiatives to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Customer Service and Sales teams

This position requires a bachelor's degree in business, marketing or equivalent, with a minimum of 7-10 years in a customer-service/customer-facing environment. Additional requirements include:

  • At least five years of management/supervisory experience
  • Life science or related industry knowledge strongly preferred
  • Experience in supporting a global sales organization, including direct sales and through distribution partners
  • A solid understanding of ERP systems for placing and tracking orders and managing customer and product/service interface, preferably using Microsoft Dynamics GP, and advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office products and a CRM system
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and listening skills; ability to communicate with all levels of management and company personnel
  • High-energy and positive "can-do" approach when dealing with internal and external customers; ability to effectively listen, acknowledge, and show calm when dealing with customers on all level issues/complaints

Production Scientist - Molecular Biology Reagents

Lucigen seeks an adaptable and collaborative production scientist to manufacture and provide occasional technical expertise for the Company's molecular biology reagents. Additional responsibilities for the position include:

  • Independently perform manufacturing, quality control, distribution, materials management, and maintenance activities in a manner consistent with Lucigen's ISO 13485 quality systems
  • Process, record, and analyze data following approved protocols and using good documentation practices
  • Effectively communicate results to the Lucigen team
  • Plan, schedule, and manage assigned functions and product families to provide product that meets the production plan and customer requirements
  • Identify process improvement opportunities based on first-hand observation and data review
  • Develop and conduct studies and follow protocols supporting process improvements, investigations, and corrective/preventative actions

This position requires a bachelor's degree in relevant life sciences field with 3+ years' industry experience. Additional requirements include:

  • Experience and proficiency in isolating DNA and RNA (large scale nucleic acid purification a plus)
  • Experience and proficiency in small- or large-scale DNA purification and manufacture:
    • DNA quantification by agarose gel or qubit
    • DNA digests with restriction enzymes
    • Agarose gel DNA extractions
    • Plasmid preps from bacterial culture
    • Sequencing setup and interpretation of results
    • Ligation and transformation
  • Adept at standard molecular biology procedures, especially nucleic acid amplifications
  • Proven track record working as part of a cross-functional team

Product Manager

Lucigen seeks a results-oriented and experienced product manager to develop and manage a portfolio of amplification and related products, including products for PCR, RT-PCR, and nucleic acid purification. Additional responsibilities for the position include:

  • Develop the tactical plans to execute the product line marketing strategies; create and deploy marketing collateral in support of new and existing products
  • Perform financial review of product performance, product positioning, value to the customer, competitive situation in the market, market trends, market-share gains, wins/losses, and best practices on a regular basis for assigned product line
  • Lead strategic planning teams and drive new product development process from concept through commercialization, including voice-of-customer (VOC) research, definition of customer and product requirements and value proposition; manage product launches and sales training
  • Identify market opportunities and translate customer needs into customer-focused requirements in language appropriate for internal design and execution
  • Establish product/technology differentiation, positioning, and value proposition; ensure pricing achieves margin expectations and market penetration
  • Execute post-launch review metrics, evaluation of product performance in customer's hands and VOC
  • Manage response to customer complaints with cross-functional teams
  • Plan and manage tradeshows, symposia, and other customer-focused events for assigned product line

This position requires a B.S. or B.A. degree (M.S. or Ph.D. preferred) in a life sciences-related discipline. Additional requirements include:

  • 3-5 years of life sciences industry experience in a customer-facing role (marketing, sales, or technical support)
  • Understanding of PCR and general products, as well as experience in molecular biology
  • Proven ability to build relationships and guide teams with representatives from multiple functional areas
  • Demonstrated experience with and accountability for managing and growing a complex multi-million-dollar product portfolio, to include revenue and profitability responsibility

Accountant I

Lucigen seeks a motivated and attentive communicator to handle the company's daily accounting and purchasing transactions and ensure company accounting procedures conform to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Additional responsibilities for the position include:

  • Manage all aspects of accounts payable (AP) process, including preparation of incoming invoices for entry into ERP system by performing 3-way match, ensuring appropriate approvals and proper expense recognition
  • Coordinate weekly disbursement activity, ensuring timely payment of vendor invoices
  • Coordinate all aspects of company's purchasing function, ensuring timely receipt of goods and services including researching and resolving any issues and discrepancies
  • Maintain accurate vendor records, including management of W-9 forms and issuance of 1099 records
  • Assist with monthly general ledger closing and reporting, and year-end and audit activity as needed
  • Backup to Senior Accountant in calculation and payment of sales & use taxes
  • Complete invoicing, cash application, and filing of all customer order activity
  • Perform all aspects of accounts receivable (AR) collection; make recommendations to CFO and Customer Service Supervisor regarding proper course of action; prepare monthly schedule and follow-up activity on all invoices 30 days past due
  • Manage petty cash activity
  • Complete assigned reconciliations, research discrepancies, and coordinate corrections on a timely basis by collaborating with necessary departments
  • Manage approved vendor list and vendor qualification process in accordance with Lucigen's quality system
  • Backup for processing of bi-weekly payroll and correlating journal entries
  • Backup to customer service team in entry of customer orders and phone and mail administration
  • Maintains record retention for AP and AR invoice and adherence to required record keeping

This position requires an associate degree in accounting or finance with 3+ years' relative experience. Additional requirements include:

  • At least 2 years of progressively more responsible experience in comparable positions; experience must be in full-cycle accounting in a manufacturing, biotechnology, or life science company
  • Understanding of GAAP and general business knowledge
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize activities, and complete duties accurately and timely
  • Proficient computer operation skills including accounting system, spreadsheets, and word processing software

Key Account Manager

Lucigen seeks a driven and experienced key account manager to energize significant business growth through the sale of Lucigen's products to life science companies in the assigned region. Additional responsibilities for the position include:

  • Identify new bulk, OEM, and custom business opportunities and engage all necessary stakeholders to negotiate long-term supply agreements in the assigned region
  • Drive plans in collaboration with Technical Support, Production, Sales and Marketing for key accounts in the assigned region that reflects Lucigen's corporate initiatives
  • Understand customer operations, current and future needs, buying behaviors, competitive factors, and OEM opportunities to develop and implement strategic account plans to significantly increase revenues, profits, and customer satisfaction leveraging Lucigen's OEM capabilities
  • Develop comprehensive pricing strategy to reflect value delivered while growing revenues and profit
  • Develop and nurture long-term strategic relationships with customers to enable continued collaborations
  • Build partnerships by supporting and developing strong relationships with existing and prospective customers in the assigned region
  • Define and track metrics that measure successful sales performance of key accounts in the assigned region
  • Provide monthly report to supervisor on key accounts' performance, opportunities, and sales funnel
  • Monitor the competition and report important activities (technical developments, trends within key accounts, seminars, training sessions, etc.) back to Lucigen
  • Provide Marketing and R&D with feedback to consider adoption of new products, technologies, or services that will benefit Lucigen's business efforts

This position requires a B.S. or B.A. (M.S. or Ph.D. preferred) degree in a life sciences-related discipline. Additional requirements include:

  • Understanding of genomics, proteomics, and molecular biology products in general
  • Knowledge to clearly discuss fundamental theory and principles of experimental design, techniques, and results
  • Ability to provide information back to the customer in a helpful, courteous, positive and professional manner
  • Minimum of 3 years' lab experience, with proven knowledge and understanding of molecular biology, cell biology and related fields
  • Minimum of 2 years' previous experience working with customers in a sales or business development position; OEM sales, sales management experience preferred
  • Sales experience in research reagents to academic, industrial and pharmaceutical customers preferred; 3+ years' outside sales experience preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and listening skills; previous experience giving oral presentations preferred
  • Strong commitment to customer service and flexible to accommodate unexpected work changes
  • Highly driven, independent worker with a strong motivation to succeed; effective negotiator and facilitator
