Senior Accountant

Lucigen seeks a highly experienced and knowledgeable accounting leader to serve as a senior accountant providing leadership in and support of the Company's daily accounting needs. Additional responsibilities for the position include:

  • Serve as Lucigen's business expert for application maintenance of ERP system, including training users on system functionality
  • Partner with functional business representatives to analyze, design, modify, test, and implement software solutions and applications to satisfy Lucigen's business requirements
  • Lead discovery sessions to identify new and/or enhanced business processes including cost-benefit analysis to aid management in making implementation decisions
  • Serve as project manager for software roll-outs, support for hardware roll-outs, and special projects related to ERP system
  • Assist VP of Operations in the development of standard costing methodology, including implementation of standard costing process and perpetual inventory system
  • Ensure asset lists accurately reflect physical assets at the location and lead audits of this information
  • Oversee, lead, and reconcile annual physical inventory and cycle count activity
  • Work with Operations to maintain cost accounting activities, including updating standard costs and periodic calculation of applicable overhead rates
  • Create cost sheets for manufactured products
  • Participate in key month-end closing activities and financial statement preparation
  • Analyze, research, and review unusual balances and entries for discrepancies and resolution
  • Prepare preliminary commentary of financial results for CFO at month-end
  • Responsible for sales and use tax review and compliance
  • Maintain accurate fixed asset records in accordance with company policy and GAAP
  • Serve as primary backup to the Accountant II for adherence to the royalty program and grant accounting compliance at Lucigen
  • Work with external auditors on all financial and compliance audits
  • Ensure all accounting practices are in compliance with GAAP, NIH & USDA guidelines and all other relevant accounting standards, including company values and practices

This position requires a college degree in accounting or a related field. Additional requirements include:

  • Minimum of 5-7 years' work experience in full-cycle accounting
  • CPA, CMA, or MBA preferred
  • At least 7 years of progressively more responsible experience in comparable positions; experience in full-cycle accounting in a manufacturing, biotechnology, or life science company required
  • Knowledge and adherence to generally accepted accounting (GAAP) principles
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Associate Production Scientist

Lucigen seeks a detail-oriented team player to serve as a production scientist on the team that manufactures products for the Company's competent cell product line. Additional responsibilities for the position include:

Technical Support & Application Scientist

Lucigen seeks an analytical and customer-focused technical support & application scientist to provide expert technical troubleshooting solutions to customers in multiple stages of the sales cycle (evaluation, validation, or post-sale). Additional responsibilities for the position include:

  • Support customer inquiries through telephone, e-mail, fax, or visits to customer labs
  • Comply with Lucigen's quality system and regulatory requirements associated with customer support and complaint handling; ensure completeness and accuracy (quality) of contact and product logging in the complaint handling system
  • Perform laboratory work to identify root cause of customer technical issue, prepare for workshop or training, evaluate a new Lucigen product or application, or evaluate a competitor's product
  • Review marketing material for technical accuracy, including user's manuals, product brochures, communication to customers, and other technical documents as they occur
  • Monitor and report competitor activities, technical developments, and trends
  • Serve as a resource to the product development, marketing, and sales teams, as assigned by supervisor
  • Understands and complies with ethical, legal, and regulatory requirements applicable to our business
  • Produce and help maintain an archive of customer-facing material including but not limited to: application notes, white-papers, posters, marketing content for videos and presentations

This position requires a B.S. or B.A. (M.S. or Ph.D. preferred) degree in a life sciences-related discipline. Additional requirements include:

  • Technical competency to understand and to clearly discuss fundamental theory and principles of experimental design, techniques and results; to stay current in technical knowledge; to troubleshoot and to provide information back to the customer in a helpful, courteous, positive and professional manner
  • Minimum of 3 years lab experience with proven knowledge and understanding of molecular biology, cell biology, and related fields; previous experience working with customers in technical services position preferred
  • Understanding of genomics, proteomics, and molecular biology products in general, with a strong focus and knowledge in next generation sequencing technology preferred

Field Application Scientist - NGS

Lucigen seeks a customer-focused and experienced field application scientist to serve as the primary technical liaison and field contact between Lucigen and customers performing next generation sequencing (NGS) applications. Additional responsibilities for the position include:

  • Provide expert understanding and strong technical competency to identify customer challenges and map them to Lucigen's products and services
  • Onboard new users from product evaluation onward throughout the sales cycle
  • Provide high-level technical support to the customer regarding design requirements and guidance or input on experiments related to use of Lucigen's products
  • Assist customers with product demonstrations, if needed, in support of pre-sales activity including seminar and conference talks, poster sessions, and consultative discussions with key customers
  • Provide application support for pre- and post-sales activities for Lucigen's product portfolio

  • 3+ years of laboratory or bench experience doing library preparations, sequencing (NGS) whole genome amplification or single-cell genomics
  • Strong technical knowledge of NGS technologies and applications-related work in the field or in the laboratory
  • Experience with biostatistics and computational data analysis strongly preferred; ability to use bioinformatics to analyze and interpret NGS data
  • Experience with reagent/consumable sales, preferably supporting customers in core labs in academia, industry, hospitals and/or government accounts; field applications experience preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of and practical experience in biotechnology

Inside Sales Manager

Lucigen seeks a collaborative and detail-oriented inside sales manager to contribute actively to commercial & marketing initiatives/opportunities, especially those initiatives focused on driving incremental business growth through key accounts. Additional responsibilities for the position include:

  • Manage the "Key Accounts Program" with recognition and incentives that lead to strengthening relationships, including support of Lucigen's global distribution partners
  • Work closely with internal departments (i.e. Marketing, Operations, Shipping, Customer Service, etc.) to coordinate on key initiatives in support of the customer and to achieve superior customer satisfaction
  • Work closely and in collaboration with outside sales team to enhance working relationships with key accounts
  • Follow up on all new customer leads, sample requests, webinars and tradeshow leads to ensure touch point with all customers for cross selling ("warm up" leads for outside sales team)
  • Effectively handle inbound, unsolicited prospect calls and triage to appropriate sales rep or manager when necessary; cold-call (telephone) prospects and identify leads
  • In partnership with Marketing or Outside Sales, support initiatives for social selling and outbound projects including but not limited to LinkedIn, e-blasts, web conferences, tradeshows and conferences participation; may attend tradeshows and conferences as required from time to time

  • Design, implement, and manage processes that allow the team to effectively cover both inbound/outbound calls, including further qualification of in-bound marketing leads, engagement with existing customers and qualified sales leads, and addressing customer questions or objections
  • Establish and maintain strong, positive, and productive relationships with customers, including management and purchasing contacts; nurture and grow client relationships at the appropriate levels
  • Analyze, monitor and report key business metrics or other requested sales reporting
  • Manage opportunities using CRM to document customer information and track opportunities
  • Recognize and communicate sales opportunities to outside sales team and collaborate effectively with team to bring potential opportunities to closure; transfer accounts and customer information to outside sales team
  • Ensure the effective use of marketing resources—flyers, posters, application notes, etc.—to heighten customer's awareness of Lucigen's products & services
  • Work with Global Sales Director on customer-focused initiatives to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Sales Team

This position requires a B.S./B.A. degree in business, marketing, or equivalent. Additional requirements include:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in sales, account management, or customer service role
  • Experience in the life science industry preferred
  • Demonstrated skill set in effective sales process and deal closure
  • Must have a solid understanding of ERP systems, preferably using Microsoft Dynamics GP, and have advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office products and a CRM system
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills; ability to effectively listen, acknowledge, and show calm when dealing with customers on all level issues/complaints
