Shipping & Receiving Technician

Lucigen seeks hard-working and efficient shipping and receiving technicians to handle receipt of all incoming materials and to support various packaging and shipping needs. Additional responsibilities for the position include:

  • Receive and inspect incoming materials following SOP's and written instructions that meet specifications and quality system requirements
  • Label, fill, and package products following SOP's and written instructions that meet specifications and customer requirements
  • Print batch history records from quality management software
  • Assign lot numbers in Microsoft Access database
  • Print and apply labels to tubes manually and with automated equipment
  • Dispense product
  • Assemble kits individually and as part of a team
  • Provide support for shipping and receiving activities as needed

This position requires an associate degree in life sciences or operations, or equivalent education and experience. Additional requirements include:

  • Minimum two years of relevant experience, preferably in a biotech or life-sciences organization

Customer Service Representative

Lucigen seeks a flexible and high-energy customer service representative to serve as a primary contact for processing all catalog orders through multiple channels. Additional responsibilities for the position include:

  • Respond positively to and expeditiously process all incoming telephone inquiries and orders; adhere to SOP's and departmental training guidelines
  • Follow established service quality standards and meet established telephone order processing time standards (talk time, after call work, order accuracy, etc.)
  • Assess individual customer requirements and direct activities to appropriate departments
  • Utilize sales order entry system, catalogs, price lists and sales aids to provide accurate information to customers, including interpreting quotes and promotions and credit policies
  • Provide required documentation related to each particular order to meet shipping schedules (i.e. material safety data sheets, certificates of analysis, custom orders etc.)
  • Maintain daily sales order log, reports, and other records; provide reports and logs as required
  • Respond quickly and professionally to all customer inquiries, including pricing, availability, order status, shipping details, etc.
  • Process customers' orders and ensure completeness of specifications, prices, location, and other relevant information for both product and custom orders
  • Acknowledge customer orders; advise customers on order changes, order status, backorders, quote prices, and any other changes; process and route orders for shipping
  • Process credit card payments using payment portal, ensuring privacy of customer's account information
  • Maintain the customer database system (CRM) by entering new customer leads or by updating customer information as may be required
  • Support all global sales activities, including distributors, as may be requested by the department head

This position requires a high school diploma or GED with 1 year of experience in a customer service or related field. Additional requirements include:

  • Must be highly focused on customer service, be proactive, and be able to problem solve effectively
  • Time management as it relates to workload vis-a-vis required response times is critical to success in this position
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills required
  • Must demonstrate good professional judgment, tact, and diplomacy in dealing with internal and external customers as well the ability to handle confidential and/or proprietary information

International Sales Specialist

Lucigen seeks a highly motivated and collaborative international sales specialist to provide administrative and management support to the company's distribution network, both domestic and international, as well as support to the sales team and international customers. Additional responsibilities for the position include:

  • Provide support to internal and external customers as needed, spoken and in writing
  • Capture marketing and sales announcements, or corporate updates to develop monthly newsletter for distributors and distribute the newsletter in electronic format to entire distribution network
  • Prepare, edit, and post any other company announcements as necessary and organize information to improve and facilitate distributor access to information and tools as needed
  • Organize and track information pertaining to distributor network, such as quarterly sales report, forecasts, marketing & sales annual plans; assist with the implementation and tracking of distributor report card assessment tool
  • Assist with product launch-related activities to ensure successful product launch through distribution channels and web portal partners (i.e. Quartzy); update price lists and distribute to channels accordingly
  • Respond to distributors' inquiries regarding pricing, marketing tools, re-direct technical questions, or special projects such as logistics planning & preparations for distributor meetings
  • Assist with local or international trade/vendor shows, conferences, and events as needed
  • Assist supervisor with travel arrangements and other administrative duties as assigned
  • Assist customer service or sales teams in day-to-day activities such as sample follow-up, cross selling, new product discussions, and channel support
  • Work closely with internal departments (i.e. Operations, Shipping, Customer Service, etc.) to coordinate key initiatives in support of the customer and to achieve superior customer satisfaction

This position requires a B.S./B.A. degree in business, marketing or equivalent, with a minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a sales, account management or customer service role. Additional requirements include:

  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment, prior exposure to supporting a team or group of people in an organization
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal and listening skills; ability to effectively listen, acknowledge, and show calm when dealing with customers on all level issues/complaints
  • High-energy and positive "can-do" approach when dealing with internal and external customers; ability to communicate with all levels of management and company personnel

R&D Intern

Lucigen seeks an enthusiastic intern to support its research and development team through year's end. This position will primarily handle preparation of general-use laboratory materials, such as media, solutions, and glassware. Additional responsibilities for the position include:

  • Assist senior scientist with project work where PCR, DNA cloning, colony screening, DNA isolation, and restriction mapping skills are utilized
  • Equipment calibration and maintenance
  • Data management and record keeping
  • Product labeling
  • Dispensing and packaging
  • Other duties as assigned

The ideal candidate for this position will currently be pursuing an associate degree in a life-sciences-related discipline or have related experience. Additional requirements include:

  • A "team first" approach with flexibility and ability to change tasks frequently
  • PCR, DNA cloning, colony screening, DNA isolation, and restriction mapping skills
  • Strong time management, written and verbal communication skills

Dispensing Technician

Lucigen seeks a highly detailed and hard-working dispensing technician to join its fast-paced team. As part of this growing team, the position actively supports all aspects of Lucigen's production activities with responsibilities for all aspects of labeling, dispensing, and packaging of OEM and RUO products. Additional responsibilities for the position include:

  • Label, fill and package products following SOP's and written instructions such as quality system procedures (QSP's) and batch history records (BHR's) that meet specifications and customer requirements
  • Ensure production supplies needed for commercial operations are properly labeled and stored according to Lucigen's ISO standards
  • Assign lot numbers in Microsoft Access database
  • Accurately print and apply labels manually and with automated equipment
  • Dispense product using aseptic technique
  • Assemble kits individually and as part of a team
  • Provide support for shipping and receiving activities as needed

Key Account Manager

Lucigen seeks a creative and experienced key account manager to drive significant business growth through the sale of Lucigen’s products to life science companies in the assigned region. As a technical subject matter expert, this position will serve as liaison with our external customers and be responsible for coordination of all partnership activities in the assigned region (West Coast). Additional responsibilities for the position include:

  • Identify new bulk, OEM, and custom business opportunities and engage all necessary stakeholders to negotiate long-term supply agreements in the assigned region
  • Drive plans in collaboration with Technical Support, Production, Sales and Marketing for key accounts in the assigned region that reflects Lucigen’s corporate initiatives
  • Understand customer operations, current and future needs, buying behaviors, competitive factors, and OEM opportunities to develop and implement strategic account plans to significantly increase revenues, profits, and customer satisfaction leveraging Lucigen’s OEM capabilities
  • Develop comprehensive pricing strategy to reflect value delivered while growing revenues and profit
  • Develop and nurture long-term strategic relationships with customers to enable continued collaborations
  • Build partnerships by supporting and developing strong relationships with existing and prospective customers in the assigned region
  • Define and track metrics that measure successful sales performance of key accounts in the assigned region
  • Provide monthly report to supervisor on key accounts’ performance, opportunities, and sales funnel
  • Monitor the competition and report important activities (technical developments, trends within key accounts, seminars, training sessions, etc.) back to Lucigen
  • Provide Marketing and R&D with feedback to consider adoption of new products, technologies, or services that will benefit Lucigen’s business efforts
  • Understand and comply with ethical, legal and regulatory requirements applicable to our business

This position requires a B.S. or B.A. (M.S. or Ph.D. preferred) degree in a life sciences-related discipline. Additional requirements include:

  • Understanding of genomics, proteomics, and molecular biology products in general
  • Knowledge to clearly discuss fundamental theory and principles of experimental design, techniques, and results
  • Ability to provide information back to the customer in a helpful, courteous, positive and professional manner
  • Minimum of 3 years’ lab experience with proven knowledge and understanding of molecular biology, cell biology and related fields
  • Minimum of 2 years’ previous experience working with customers in sales environment and/or marketing, business development, technical service or similar position, 3+ years’ outside sales experience preferred
  • Sales experience in research reagents to academic, industrial and pharmaceutical customers preferred
  • OEM sales, sales management, business development and/or marketing experience preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and listening skills; previous experience giving oral presentations, teaching or training other scientist preferred
  • Strong commitment to customer service and flexible to accommodate unexpected work changes
  • Highly driven, independent worker with a strong motivation to succeed; effective negotiator and facilitator

Director of Research & Development (R&D)

Lucigen seeks an experienced and innovative director of research and development (R&D) to join its growing team. This position is responsible for the overall leadership and hands-on management and supervision of the company’s R&D team. Additional duties include:

  • In cooperation with Marketing and other senior management, establishes the areas of scientific focus for the company in line with the strategic plan
  • Working with other senior management, plays a number of key roles in the successful growth of the company, including opportunity analyses, successful product development, and setting company research goals and the plans to achieve those goals
  • Initiates research projects/programs aimed at growing the business, improving operating efficiencies, and meeting quality objectives 
  • With a priority of meeting customer needs, works closely with others to achieve short-term and long-term product development goals and objectives on time
  • Responsible for developing the annual departmental budget and operating to the budget
  • Provides day-to-day initiative, leadership, and general management within the research and development areas
  • Provides timely, accurate, and complete reports on research and development projects and on opportunity analysis as required by management
  • Spearheads the development, communication, and implementation of effective product growth strategies and quality improvement initiatives
  • Responsible for alignment of the company’s SBIR grant program with business strategies, as well as overseeing grant submissions and compliance with grant requirements on behalf of the company
  • Attracts, recruits, and retains required members of the R&D team not currently in place; provides mentoring to subordinates
  • Fosters a success-oriented, accountable, and quality-focused environment within the company
  • Provides technical representation for the company with clients, investors, and business partners
  • Complies with all federal and state laws, as well as the Lucigen quality system

This position requires a Ph.D. degree in a life science field and a minimum of 10 years’ experience in biotechnology at leading academic and industrial laboratories, or a Master’s degree in a life science field and a minimum of 20 years’ experience in biotechnology at leading academic and industrial laboratories. Additional requirements include:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of NGS platforms, applications, and data analysis
  • A track record of outstanding success with 10+ years’ experience in scientific management
  • Proven success in managing and developing people, group problem solving, and customer relationships
  • Good working knowledge of the requirements of an ISO quality system
  • Ability to formulate clear value and economic benefit statements, good problem solver, strong economic thinker, technical integrator
  • Exceptional organizational and oral/written communication skills
  • Strong communications and PC skills (proficiency in Microsoft Office products and spreadsheet experience)
