Protein Expression Systems
Expressioneering™ Technology is an entirely new way to radically simplify cloning and expressing recombinant proteins. Custom Services and BAC Library Construction
Lucigen is the recognized leader and only commercial source for true random-shear BAC (bacterial artificial chromosome) library construction. We have created over 100 libraries for researchers worldwide, enabling completion of the Arabidopsis genome and many others. Lucigen’s proprietary random-shear technology enables whole genome sequencing with significantly less bias than that achieved by partial digestion techniques. Molecular Test Development
Lucigen’s unique selection of polymerases and enzymes with novel biochemical attributes enables the company to enter new markets. We continue to optimize these unique enzymes for specific applications, such as isothermal amplification of DNA or RNA for diagnostic testing. Currently, the company is exploring simple molecular tests for POC (point of care) testing.
History
Lucigen was founded in 1998 by David Mead, Ph.D., focusing on the development of life science research products and technologies for genetic cloning. By concentrating on improved methods for capturing nucleic acids, Lucigen products have dramatically improved DNA cloning reliability and efficiency, which has allowed researchers to successfully capture many genes that were impossible to clone using other methods. Over time, the company has evolved to include superior offerings for competent cells, protein expression, nucleic acid sequencing, and amplification. Using our proprietary NanoClone technology, Lucigen was the first company to isolate viral DNA polymerases from boiling hot springs environments. These polymerases, along with our advancements in cloning technology, have enabled the company to expand our products in to new research areas. These markets include systems for Next Gen Sequencing library construction and molecular diagnostic test development. Our core strengths in gene cloning continue to be the underpinnings of a rapidly growing company.
